Your 2022 Debrief

Hello, amor.

It’s been a while since our last post. We got caught up with the busy-ness of the Christmas season. I hope you caught our reel of our special preview/fitting session/self-photo photoshoot. If not, check it out on our IG page.

Now that we are nearing the end of the year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the year that was and determine what you want in 2023. Companies and enterprises hold strategic planning sessions and we can adopt this practice in our personal lives. This is a two-part blog to help you do just that. Part 1 - Debrief, Part 2 - Goal Setting and Planning

Part 1 - Debrief: Taking stock of the year that was

Before going to the planning stage, first take stock of the year that was. Set a date with yourself to spend a few hours of alone time. Make sure to honor the appointment - don’t cancel unless it’s an emergency. On your date, make sure you are comfortable and will be uninterrupted. And oh, no devices! This time is just for you - this is a gift to yourself.

On this very important date, light your favorite candle, maybe play some music, have coffee, tea, or wine, and have your journal and pen ready. There are a couple of question prompts below to help you reflect. You can answer the questions one by one or read them all first then write whatever comes to mind. You can also doodle or draw a mind map. There is no one way to do it  - do what is right for you. But whatever it is, don’t rush. Breathe. Take the time to think through your responses. You’ll notice I didn’t say type your answers. That’s because there is something special about putting pen to paper.

Why is it important to do this? We need to look back and reflect on both the wins and the challenges to better know and understand ourselves and glean insights and lessons learned. And this is great preparation for Part 2 where you will take the lessons learned and plan your best year yet.

All set? Here we go

Take a deep breath, start with a brief meditation to center yourself and clear your mind off of to-do lists, anxieties, or planning. Think about your goals for this session - what you want to get out of it. There will be some tough questions but it will be worth getting through this. Give yourself permission to be honest with yourself, to acknowledge low points and take responsibility while being gentle on yourself, to celebrate wins big and small, to delight in simple joys and remember what truly matters. Be brave. Enjoy the process. You got this.

If you had to create a reel of 2022, what were your favorite days? Why?

What were your least favorite days? Why?

What did you do in 2022 that you are most proud of?

What were your intentions going into 2022?

What went well?

What didn’t go well?

How did you show up in 2022?

What are you grateful for in 2022?

What did you learn - about yourself, about others?

What did you learn that you never want to forget?

What are your intentions for 2023?

What will you do differently in 2023?

How will you show up in 2023?

What will you say Yes to more in 2023?

What will you say No to more in 2023?

Did you answer all the questions, and then some? Congratulations! You are amazing!
